VAF is proud to announce the supply of its advanced TT-Sense® propeller Thrust & Torque Sensor to Berg Propulsion for the Louis Dreyfuss Propulsion Package in wind-assisted Airbus Ro-Ro vessels. This sensor will enable Berg Propulsion to optimize propeller pitch and engine RPM by accurately measuring torque, leveraging sail contribution for maximum propulsive efficiency.

About the TT-Sense® Propeller Thrust & Torque Sensor
The TT-Sense® sensor is specifically designed to measure the compression and torsion of propeller shafts, enabling accurate performance analysis of both the propeller and the ship’s hull. Mounted on the propeller shaft between the propeller and the thrust bearing, the TT-Sense® sensor measures shaft compression and torsion over a length of 200 mm, significantly enhancing measurement accuracy compared to traditional strain gauges.
Utilizing LED technology and highly accurate optical sensors, the TT-Sense® detects minute displacements along the shaft length in both axial and tangential directions. These measurements correspond to the thrust and torque of the propeller shaft, and are continuously transmitted from the rotating shaft to the stator part via a wireless data connection with a 100 Hz transfer rate. Power is supplied to the rotating shaft inductively, ensuring continuous and reliable operation.
The stator part of the system includes a power transmission coil, data signal receiver, and a control box with digital or analogue output connections, providing seamless integration with existing propulsion systems.
